Anti-Tachycardia Pacing (ATP) is a therapy delivered by an ICD to terminate certain types of ventricular tachycardia (VT) without delivering a painful high-energy shock. The device delivers a series of rapid, precisely timed pacing pulses to interrupt and reset the abnormal rhythm. ATP is painless or barely perceptible to most patients. If ATP fails to correct the rhythm, the ICD will escalate to a shock.
