High-frequency sound vibrations, which cannot be heard by the human ear, used in medical diagnosis.

Glossary: Echocardiogram
An ultrasound scan of the heart providing real-time images of structure and function without radiation. After cardiac arrest, it is used to measure ejection fraction (pumping efficiency), assess heart muscle function, and evaluate valves. Reduced ejection fraction influences decisions about ICD implantation and medication.
