Surgical removal of the membranous sac surrounding the heart. Used in the treatment of chronic constrictive pericarditis and chronic pericardial effusion.

Pericardiocentesis

A diagnostic procedure that uses a needle to withdraw fluid from the sac or membrane surrounding the heart (pericardium).
