Antitachycardia Pacing [ATP]

A therapy delivered by an ICD that uses rapid pacing pulses to terminate ventricular tachycardia without a painful shock. Usually painless. If unsuccessful, the device will escalate to a shock.

A painless therapy delivered by an ICD that uses rapid pacing pulses to interrupt and terminate ventricular tachycardia without delivering a shock. When effective, the patient is usually unaware it has occurred. ATP reduces the shock burden for ICD recipients and the associated psychological distress.

A system that automatically transmits data from an implanted cardiac device (ICD or pacemaker) to the device clinic each night via a bedside communicator. Allows arrhythmia episodes, device therapies, and battery status to be monitored without routine clinic visits, with automatic alerts when clinical attention is needed.
