A state in which the heart is larger than normal because of heredity, long-term heavy exercise, or diseases and disorders such as obesity, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease

Glossary: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy [HCM]
An inherited heart muscle disease causing abnormal thickening of the cardiac muscle, most commonly the interventricular septum. The most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest in young people and athletes, affecting around 1 in 500. Autosomal dominant inheritance requires family screening. Management includes beta-blockers, ICD for high-risk patients, and septal reduction therapy.
