SCA UK Information Leaflet

Sudden Cardiac Arrest UK (SCA UK) is the UK’s leading cardiac arrest survivorship organisation. Founded in 2015 by survivors and co-survivors, we provide peer support, information, and advocacy for everyone affected by cardiac arrest — survivors, their families, and those who have been part of a resuscitation attempt.

This SCA UK information leaflet is a short introduction to our organisation and our aims. It is intended to be distributed to hospitals, GP surgeries, cardiac rehabilitation units, and other locations where cardiac arrest survivors and their families will be cared for.

What we do

We run one of the world’s largest cardiac arrest survivorship communities, with over 4,000 members across the United Kingdom. Through our online community, regional meetups, buddy programme, and wealth of information resources, we connect survivors and co-survivors with others who understand what they have been through.

We also work with clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to improve outcomes for cardiac arrest survivors. We have contributed to European Resuscitation Council guidelines and Resuscitation Council UK quality standards, and our ‘co-survivor’ terminology has been formally adopted into international resuscitation guidelines.

Who the leaflet is for

This leaflet is designed to be handed to patients and families in hospital settings — particularly in the days immediately following a cardiac arrest, when people are often overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. It explains who we are, what support is available, and how to get in touch.
