Long QT Syndrome

Prolongation of the Q-T interval on the elctrocardiogram. It indicates susceptability to ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, and sudden death. It may be familial or caused by certain drugs (sotalol, amiodarone, certain antipsychotic drugs) A condition affecting the electrical pathways of the heart.

An umbrella term for inherited conditions in which the heart's electrical ion channels malfunction despite a structurally normal heart. Includes Long QT Syndrome, Brugada Syndrome, Short QT Syndrome, and CPVT. Family screening is recommended following any diagnosis.
