The daily visit by a consultant and their team to each patient on a ward or in ICU to review progress, discuss test results, adjust treatment plans, and make decisions about care. Ward rounds typically happen in the morning and can move quickly. For co-survivors and family members, the ward round is often the most important opportunity of the day to hear directly from the clinical team — though in busy units it can be brief. Family members are not always present during ward rounds but can ask to speak with the consultant or a senior nurse afterwards. It is helpful to have questions written down in advance. In ICU, the senior nurse looking after your loved one can often answer many day-to-day questions between ward rounds.
