Patient Advice and Liaison Service [PALS]

« Back to Glossary Index

Patient Advice and Liaison Service. A free, confidential service available in every NHS Trust in England that helps patients, families, and carers with concerns, questions, or complaints about NHS care. PALS can help you understand what is happening with a loved one’s treatment, navigate the hospital system, resolve concerns informally before they become formal complaints, and signpost to further support. For co-survivors trying to understand a complex ICU situation or feeling that communication from the clinical team is inadequate, PALS is often the most accessible first point of contact. Each hospital has its own PALS team — their contact details are usually displayed in the hospital entrance, on the hospital website, or available from ward staff.
