Neuropsychological Assessment

« Back to Glossary Index

A comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning carried out by a neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist. Unlike brief screening tools such as the MoCA, a full neuropsychological assessment uses a battery of standardised tests to measure specific cognitive domains in detail — including memory, attention, processing speed, executive function, language, and visuospatial ability. Results are compared against population norms and can inform diagnosis, rehabilitation planning, and decisions about return to work or driving. Following cardiac arrest, neuropsychological assessment is often recommended where cognitive difficulties are significantly affecting daily life and a more detailed profile is needed than brief screening can provide.
