We’re thrilled to share an important update from Dr Nathan Pearson, lead researcher of the CARESSf study. Following the rapid approval of ethics amendments, the study is now open to more survivors and co-survivors than ever before.
What’s Changed?
Previously, participants needed to join the study within 8 weeks of hospital discharge.
Now, you can join if the cardiac arrest occurred within the past 12 months, as long as the survivor was discharged home within 30 days.
This significant change means many more people can benefit from the support offered by the CARESSf programme.
What’s Involved?
- Weekly online group sessions over 8 weeks
- Health and well-being questionnaires
- A chance to share your experience and help shape future care
The programme is designed to support both survivors and their loved ones—family members, friends, or significant others—who have been impacted by the cardiac arrest.
Take Part in the CARESSf Study
If you or someone you know fits the updated criteria, we’d love for you to get involved.

Help shape the future of cardiac arrest recovery support. Your voice matters.
CARESSf-Flyer-v1.5-07Aug2025After our first meet-up in February 2015, I realised I was not alone. It was the first time since my cardiac arrest the previous year that I had spoken face-to-face with someone who had experienced what I had. This was also true for my wife, who also happened to be my lifesaver. From that meet-up, the idea of SCA UK was born. Since then, we have achieved a considerable amount, primarily providing information, resources and support to others in a similar situation but also raising the profile of survivorship and the need for better post-discharge care. We are starting to get traction in this, and with the formation of the charity, I genuinely believe we have a bright future ahead and will make a significant difference in the lives of many who join our ranks.
Would it be ok for me to write my story of cardiac arrest & how that, Long QT syndrome and having an ICD for 12 years has affected me?
That would be great, thank you. See our guidelines at https://suddencardiacarrestuk.org/get-involved/submission-guidelines/
