Alan Owen
I am 53 years old and live in Carmarthen, South Wales. I am a Chartered IT Professional and a Fellow of the British Computer Society. I completed my MBA last year at the University of Wales, Trinity St David, and I am also a fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute.
I suffered my cardiac arrest on the 3rd of April 2002, whilst playing Walking Football at Caldicot Leisure Centre. Diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, two stents and an ICD fitted.
I volunteer for the Wales Air Ambulance and the British Heart Foundation. I am a member of the EMRTS patient forum and help with Cardiomyopathy meetings in Swansea. I wrote a book about my experience called 1 in 10 Survivor, which is available on Amazon. It is being used in Wales to help patients and nurses understand the physical and mental challenges of suffering a cardiac arrest.
I live with my wife Mel and my son Joseph.
